Landscape exposition by Gabriele Basilico
The works displayed were carried out in Europe essentially between the eighties and the nineties. The exhibition, which highlights the idea of project in Basilico’s gaze, begins with a selection of photographs belonging to the Bord de Mer cycle, the work that Basilico created in the mid-eighties for the Mission Photographique de la DATAR: a research which highlights, among other things, a close relationship with the history of art, especially with eighteenth-century landscape painters. Specific attention is paid to two groups of works carried out in Switzerland: La ricerca di un centro (1996), dedicated to the architecture of Luigi Snozzi in Monte Carasso and taken from a project curated by Gabriele Basilico himself together with Luigi Snozzi and Pierre- Alain Croset; and an important series of photographs on the San Gottardo pass (1997), understood as a vital artery between the North and the South of Europe, realized on commission for the Banca del Gottardo Cultural Foundation in occasion for its fortieth anniversary of the banking institution’s establishment. The exhibition, which presents sixty images and a selection of publications by Gabriele Basilico, tries to propose innovative ideas and new considerations regarding the work of one of the greatest photography masters in the last 40 years.
