AVALANCHE SHELTER

Avalanche Shelter – Surlej Engadin

The project is an experimental attempt to respond to a concrete necessity of the alpine landscape, determining a new interdisciplinarity form between architecture, architectural landscape and engineering. Currently, anti-avalanche protection structures are a constructive theme exclusively linked to engineering and infrastructure. The concept of landscaping and individual usability when regarding a necessary infrastructure, is often subordinated to technical and functional characteristics that such structures need to guarantee. Through a carefully constructed balance between architecture and technical rigour, the project demonstrates the possibility not only of a new image, but also of a new sense of infrastructure, generating a mutation in its use and integration within the social and landscape context.
